What a nail-biter!!  In their first match of the day, the Lady Salamanders took on neighboring rival Canada in an all out epic battle. The women’s team came out ready to play with energy and heart. The Canadian team scored first, but Kate from Ann Arbor replied with a US goal in the 3rd minute of the game. As the first half came to an end, the Lady Salamanders were down by four goals. The second half was filled with competiveness and spirit. The Lady Salamanders rallied back from behind and scored four goals in the 2nd half. As the final minutes came to a close the score was tied 5-5!  This meant one thing, penalty kicks!

First up was Canada, who scored on their first penalty kick. The USA chose Kate to take the next penalty shot. Although Kate missed the shot, Coach Otto was “proud of how well Kate and the whole USA team stayed calm under the pressure of the game.” Coach Otto also mentioned the goalie for her “outstanding competitiveness ”

The Lady Salamanders truly showed what Street Soccer USA is all about: playing with heart and using their street soccer skills in the face of adversity.
