Our inspirational women’s team participated in the opening match of the Homeless World Cup Women’s Tournament yesterday in front of a crowd of thousands in the backdrop of the historical El Zocalo, the heart of historical Mexico City against the formidable host city team Street Soccer Mexico. While the match led to a 20-0 defeat for our US Women’s team, the significance of being in the fervent and uplifting atmosphere of the Homeless World Cup was not lost on them. It has left a memorable and positive impression on our team. “It was tough but great to get our feet wet and see what the experience was like and be ready for the next match” was the sentiment many of our women echoed afterwards. They’ve regrouped feeling much stronger for the experience, ready for the next match today when they face off against neighboring Street Soccer Canada at 2:30pm (local time).
