Sacramento was one of the first ever women’s teams. This was right after they became the first ever totally mohawked team. What I love about the teams from Sacramento is the joy they bring to everything. Homelessness is hard. Recovery is hard. The day to day of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps is not exactly a feel good movie while you are doing it. It only looks like that in retrospect. Yet somehow Street Soccer Sacramento brings that forward looking joy to the everyday, and soccer practices there are the major expression of that. Maybe that’s their secret to success, bringing some joy and humor and above all honesty to the day to day of recovery and redemption. More power to them and more power to us if we can copy them a little bit. Here’s a facebook video they posted. I’m blindly trusting it because I haven’t seen it yet—the office in nyc blocks facebook vids through a the firewall, but I just have a feeling it’s worth sharing.
